On the 27th
of February SI Dusit of Thailand held its major fundraiser for the
year.
As our major Programme Focus is EDUCATION, we have all worked very hard for 9-10 months for this event. This will enable us to obtain the funds, for the many students we manage.
[At March 2010 we are looking after over 110 students,]
For 2010 SI Dusit came up with a new concept ……An ‘Open home’ tour, visiting four celebrated Thai artists.
The “Art from Inside” Tour visited the private homes and studios of Chatchai Puipia, Pinaree Sanpitak, and Jakkai Siributr. The fourth luminary was the late Misiem Yipintsoi.
These artists are
already well known and celebrated. They have also achieved
recognition in the international arena. The unique aspect of this
charity event was that for the first time, people were able to see
the homes, and studio environment in which the creative process takes
place.
Many, many meetings were attended.
First of all we had to find the artists who were prepared to have strangers walking through their homes and studios.
Professional Curators were found to help with each artist.
Hostesses and coordinators were organized for each home.
Vans were used to get the public into the small Sois [lanes] where most of the artists are living, some in old family compounds, with add-ons etc for studios.
Van guides, Japanese translators, routes, maps, food, snacks, posters, ticketing, organizing the 2 sessions, morning and afternoon timetables, registration of ticket holders……..almost makes me giddy thinking about all the organization that went into this project to make this a successful event.
Everybody loved it, and the artists, who had never experienced this sort of thing before were enthralled by everyone’s responses.
We have managed to cover our scholarship costs for another year.
