About Soroptimist

SI Symbol
Soroptimist International (SI) is a worldwide organization for women in management and the professions. SI works through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women. The name Soroptimist was coined from the Latin ‘soror’, meaning sister, and ‘optima’ meaning best, and is perhaps better interpreted as meaning ‘the best for women’. The first Soroptimist Club was formed in 1921 in Oakland California.

With close to 100.000 members in over 3000 clubs in 125 countries, SI is the world’s largest service organization for women.
